As a print designer looking to get into web design. Need pro advice, learn what to first and what is not?
As a print designer looking for in web design to obtain. In trying to teach me with online tutorials (lynda.com) to. I was looking for someone to help me put a program on the languages that I learn should be and in what order. In what order should I learn this (also not required / outdated): HTML, XHTML, CSS, XML, Javascript, ActionScript, and all the others I left out that you feel are important. I know recognize basics of Dreamweaver and Flash but I need to get back and learn the above. I am glad to know, in my knowledge of Flash Actionscript programming better. Thank you in advance for any advice.
In order of their Meaning: Start with HTML / XHTML. Make sure you can create a site structure properly, try and use as little as possible and without markup tools except a text editor. Once you know that it started in / out, with CSS. Recognize that Web design and print media are very different and welcome the fact that nothing is happening, look identical on every browser. You will learn the characteristics of popular browsers (IE / Firefox / Safari / Webkit, the main leader). Then, to use JavaScript to do the same - they get in / out. XML is useful for AJAX stuff and RSS. Know a bit about JSON is useful as well. ActionScript / Flash, not necessary. It can also be good to look at popular JavaScript libraries like jQuery, Dojo, Prototype or YUI. They are expressing much more than plain ol 'javascript, and quite a bit. Basically, start simple, do not try to create, full, widget-filled interactive web pages, on the get-go. Concentrate that one is a solid understanding of the respective first aspect. Above all, have fun! Useful links: http://www.w3schools.com/ http://www.alistapart.com/ http://www.smashingmagazine.com/ http: / / jquery.com / http://nettuts.com/
